Chris Ricketts, 31, who works at Priory School, has been performing the daily Facebook gig from his living room for the last four weeks since he himself had to go into isolation due to experiencing coronavirus symptoms. The former cruise ship singer believes the power of music can give a real boost to people’s spirits as well provide a sense of comfort to those struggling with the isolation of lockdown.

Chris said: ‘I think music is massively important in affecting how people feel and can really bring a smile to people’s faces. It can provide a sense of escapism as people associate certain songs with special memories.

‘I had to go into isolation myself four days before the official lockdown due to feeling unwell. I have found it difficult and performing the songs has really helped my mental health as I have a lot of good memories from the different tracks.’

As well as performing some of his own favourite cover songs Chris has also been taking online requests.

‘There has been a real mix of songs which span the generations from the Eagles to Ed Sheeran. Strangely, one of the most requested songs has been I Saw a Tiger by Joe Exotic,’ he said.

While Chris normally performs two tracks a day, this Friday (April 24) he is hosting an hour long Facebook Live concert from his Copnor home in which he will be performing some classic cover songs on his acoustic guitar. The gig will start at 8pm and people can post song requests in advance of the show.

The songs certainly seem to have had the desired affect of lifting people’s mood.

One poster stated: ‘Loving these - thanks Chris. I'm working from home and your songs are helping me stay sane.’

Another added: ‘Love it Chris. One if my all time favourite songs.’
