Portsmouth photography group captures 24 hours in the life of the city
NOT to be beaten by the coronavirus pandemic, a group of amateur photographers have taken their exhibition online.
The 24 Hours in Portsmouth exhibition was created by the She_Captures – women’s photography group – whose members spent 24 hours taking shots that reveal life in the city.
Group member Lisa Mundy, 62, said: ‘Portsmouth is a very interesting city with some beautiful places but also some challenging areas.

‘The project was about capturing a snapshot of what life is like.’
‘We also had photographs of normal everyday life such as a man who was cleaning at the Guildhall.’
Fellow group member, Sarah Marston, 52, added: ‘We started out at 10am in the morning and some of use went through to the following day. My group started at Canoe Lake before finishing outside the old News offices where we were capturing traffic trails in the early hours of the morning.’
As well as capturing the city’s iconic landscapes including Southsea seafront, South Parade Pier and the Hotwalls, the exhibition also portrays Pompey.
Sarah said: ‘Football is a big part of life in the city and so it was important to photograph the fans arriving at Fratton Park.
‘I photographed one lady who has been coming to the ground for over 60 years.’
The group had hoped to host its exhibition on the seafront promenade but concerns over social distancing forced them to create a virtual online display.
The 48 selected photographs can be seen on the group’s website from 10am on May 8.
