Project to get string musicians in orchestra

Young string musicians from across Hampshire are being given an opportunity to perform with Hampshire County Youth Orchestra at Winchester Cathedral in July.

Hampshire County Council’s Music Service is inviting string musicians under the age of 19 years, playing at grade 3 and above, to take part in a taster session on Saturday at Thornden School, in Chandler’s Ford.

At this session, they will be asked to play their violin, viola, cello or double bass.

Following the session, those who sign up for the performance will be asked to attend fortnightly rehearsals on Saturday mornings, during the spring and summer term, culminating in a performance of the opera Noye’s Fludde by Benjamin Britten on Saturday, July 9.

The one-off project is supported by funding from Arts Council England, in conjunction with the Hampshire Music Education Hub.
