Teacher’s national award for inclusivity

A TEACHER has received a national award for her work in championing inclusivity in her school.

Andrea Marr, from Horndean Technology College, received the Educator Champion award from the charity, Just Like Us.

The charity provide support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBT+) young people.

In her role at the school, Andrea has led campaigns to help raise awareness and educate students. This has included running LGBT+ History Month assemblies and establishing an LGBT+ Ally Group.

Headteacher, Julie Summerfield, said: ‘At Horndean Technology College Andrea has dedicated herself to making the College fully inclusive for LGBT+ students.

‘Andrea engaged Governors in introducing gender neutral toilets and changing rooms and secured funding for LGBT+ books for the library.’

The award was presented to Andrea by Dancing on Ice star Matt Evers.
