University of Portsmouth professor's prestigious award for psychological research

A UNIVERSITY professor has received a prestigious award for his work with people suffering psychological problems.

Dr Adrian Needs from the University of Portsmouth has been given a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Psychological Society (BPS).

The award recognises the ‘outstanding personal achievements of those who have made significant contributions to psychological knowledge and practice’.

As principal lecturer in the Department of Psychology, Dr Needs has played a crucial role in the development of academic and professional training routes for forensic psychologists. He previously worked in the prison service with inmates sentenced for violent convictions.

Dr Needs said: ‘To receive the Lifetime Achievement Award is a huge honour. My work has been quite an odyssey.’
