Waterlooville pupils visited by Havant mayor to discuss equality and diversity during school's Black Lives Matter week
Hart Plain Infant School held a series of lessons and talks which focused on key individuals from different ethnicities and their success or impact on society.
This included Oti Mabuse, Mo Farah, Martin Luther King Jr, Will.i.am and Dr Mae Jemison.

Hide AdThroughout the week, the children were involved in a variety of activities including rapping, dancing, making rockets and dream catchers, running and learning key facts about each figure.
Ruth Kenny, headteacher, said: ‘It was amazing to see how engaged the children were in there learning this week.
‘They focused on the achievements of the people in focus and were able to talk about their contributions to society.
‘I am really looking forward to using this week as a springboard into making our curriculum much more diverse and inclusive.’

Hide AdMayor of Havant Prad Bains visited the school to speak about the importance of equality, diversity and respect.
Cllr Bains, who is British Indian, said: ‘I spoke to each school bubble about the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion and how they can achieve anything they set out to regardless of any characteristic.
‘I spoke of the pride I have in being the first mayor of Havant to come from an ethnic minority background and also being the UK’s youngest diverse mayor.’
Cllr Bains also spoke about his family background and pride in his Indian heritage.

Hide AdHe added: ‘The children really engaged with me and I hope that by getting this important message across, it helps to shape views on equality in the local area.’
