City hospitals authority appoints new chief nurse

A HEALTH authority has appointed a new chief nurse.

Theresa Murphy has been named the new chief nurse of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Ms Murphy first qualified in general nursing in 1987, before specialising in renal, cardiac, neuroscience and critical care nursing.

She was awarded the Florence Nightingale leadership scholarship in 2012 and is an honorary professor for the City of London University.

Mark Cubbon, chief executive of Portsmotuh Hospitals NHS trust, said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to welcome Theresa, who complements my new senior team in the role of chief nurse – we have been very fortunate to have secured someone of Theresa’s high calibre.

‘I know she will make a huge contribution to the organisation, ensuring we always put the patient first and providing exemplary leadership.’

Ms Murphy is currently working part-time as the trust’s director of nursing, until she takes on her new role on January 1, 2018.
