Coronavirus: Hampshire school to stay shut for two more days as deep clean takes place

A HAMPSHIRE school will remain closed for two more days while an ‘enhanced clean’ takes place to remove any potential trace of coronavirus.

The action comes after St Mary's Independent School in Bitterne Park, Southampton, shut yesterday amid concerns of the virus’ spread.

At least one student at the secondary school who recently travelled to China allegedly showed symptoms of the illness upon their return.

One family was later tested at Southampton General Hospital and sent home to self-isolate, which is normal protocol.

No cases of coronavirus in relation to the school have been confirmed by Public Health England.

A GP practice in Brighton has closed temporarily after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

There have been eight confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

Two of these people affected are understood to be GPs.

The Department of Health said as of 10 February, a total of 1,114 people had been tested for coronavirus, of which 1,106 were confirmed negative and 8 positive.
