Coronavirus infection rate increases in Havant

The infection rate in Havant, for the week ending July 25, increased to 3.2 confirmed cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people, up from 0.8 the previous week.

As of yesterday (July 27), there have been 364 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Havant, with a rate of 289.3 cases per 100,000 resident population.

In East Hampshire, the rate has also increased from 2.5 to 4.1.

But rates across Portsmouth, Gosport and Fareham have dropped.

In the city, the rate was 1.4, down from 1.9 the week before.

A total of 508 cases have now been confirmed in Portsmouth since the pandemic began.

The infection rates in Gosport and Fareham decreased from 2.3 to 1.2 and from 2.6 to 1.7, respectively.

Southampton saw an increase from 1.6 confirmed cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people to 5.9.

No cases were reported on the Isle of Wight last week, so the island has an infection rate of 0.0.

Earlier this month Portsmouth City Council leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson said the city was of the UK’s 'safest cities' for infection rates despite a ‘tiny’ rise in cases in the last few weeks.

The latest report also had an update on areas which have recorded a significant amount of new cases.

In Blackburn with Darwen, the rate is broadly unchanged at 79.2 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to July 25, compared with 79.9 in the seven days to July 18. A total of 118 new cases have been recorded.

Second on the list is Leicester, where the rate continues to fall and is now down from 75.2 to 56.0, with 199 new cases.

In third place is Oldham, where the rate has jumped from 14.9 to 53.9, with 127 new cases.

Public Health England said in its report that emergency department attendances with a Covid-19-like diagnosis remained stable, as did hospital and critical care admissions, with deaths continuing to fall.

There have been no deaths linked to coronavirus at QA Hospital since June 5.

More than 300,000 positive cases in the UK have been recorded.
