Coronavirus: UK total of Covid-19 cases hits 456 in biggest daily rise so far

THE total number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK has gone up again.

The Department of Health have announced that there have been 456 cases of the disease as of 9am on Wednesday.

This is up 83 from the same time on Tuesday, a rise of 22 per cent in 24 hours.

Six people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK.

Two British citizens in Japan and Indonesia have also died from the disease.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been 10 cases of Covid-19 in Hampshire and one on the Isle of Wight.

A total of 27,476 people have been tested for the disease with 27,020 testing negative.

Manchester City’s home game against Arsenal in the Premier League tonight has been postponed as several of the Gunners have had to self-isolate after Olympiakos’ owner announced he had coronavirus. The Greek side had visited the Emirates in the Europa League recently.

Health minister Nadine Doris revealed on Tuesday night that she had tested positive for Covid-19.

The Queen went back to shaking hands again at a Buckingham Palace audience.

The monarch missed out the traditional greeting when welcoming the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to her residence on Tuesday.

But, on Wednesday, she met with Professor Mark Compton, Lord Prior of the Order of St John, and was pictured shaking his hand.

The number of cases of coronavirus in Scotland has risen by a third to 36.

The Scottish Government confirmed that was the latest total of people diagnosed with Covid-19, up from 27 on Tuesday.
