Care homes across Hampshire record 7 new coronavirus deaths

THERE have been seven new coronavirus deaths in care homes across Hampshire in the most recent week recorded.

According to data from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) there were six deaths related to Covid-19 in care homes in the Hampshire County Council area between November 21 and 27. And in that time there was one in Portsmouth.

The week before there were also seven across the whole county.

However, this was an increase on previous weeks.

In the Hampshire council area between November 7 to 13 there were six Covid related deaths, and the previous week there were three.

There were two from October 17 to 23 and on September 25 there was one.

Before then the last Covid death was on August 26, and weekly figures remained low after June.

In Portsmouth the last recorded death in care homes before November was on August 13.

And in Southampton there has not been a care home death since October 1.

The gradual increase matches the trend nationwide as there were 465 new care home deaths recorded in England between November 21 to 27 - up 62 from the week before. During August and September coronavirus deaths in English care homes were at single daily figures.

The Hampshire County Council area still remains the highest in England for the total number of coronavirus deaths in care homes with 478 since records began on April 10.

In Portsmouth care homes there have been a total of 42 Covid deaths.

And in Southampton care homes there have been 63.
