Portsmouth in tier three: Live updates as highest Covid restrictions come into force in city, Gosport and Havant

Portsmouth has been in tier two since December 2, but it has now been moved up to tier three along with Gosport and Havant.

The rules came into force at 12.01am today (December 19) just over two weeks after the end of the second national lockdown.

Health Secretary announced that Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant would be put under the highest level of restrictions in the House of Commons on Thursday, following a review carried out by the government last week.

It means that businesses such as pubs and restaurants have to shut except if they are offering takeaways.

There is also new advice for residents in tier three areas about traveling to the surrounding areas which are in tier two.
