Coronavirus lockdown: Readers react to Boris Johnson's announcement

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that the UK is in lockdown for three weeks to combat the coronavirus. People must stay indoors and except to buy food, or to exercise once a day, and all ‘non-essential’ shops will be closed. Here’s what readers made of the measure.

Building sites and lots of contractors will still be working, it's not a proper lockdown, He has said people can still go to work if they can’t work from home.

This isn’t lockdown, it’s just closing down clothes, electrical shops, which most of these shops have done anyway. Think he just needs to say one thing or another and thats’ it, lockdown means lockdown, no-one will be seen anywhere.

What about the homeless? No mention of them. Do they get a fine or [perhaps] Portsmouth council could open Kingston Prison to help out.

I would say he was crystal clear. You do not leave your house unless it is absolutely essential!
