Covid deaths in Hampshire care homes reaches lowest level this year

THE NUMBER of weekly Covid-19 deaths in Hampshire care homes is at its lowest this year.

According to the latest figures from the Care Quality Commission there were two coronavirus related deaths across Hampshire between March 27 and April 1.

Both were recorded in the Hampshire County Council area with none in Portsmouth or Southampton.

And in the week prior - March 20 to 26 - one was recorded in Portsmouth and one in the Hampshire County Council area.

This is a significant drop compared to previous reports, such as the fortnight from February 20 to March 5 when there were there were 33 Covid deaths in care homes across the county.

Nationally Covid-19 deaths in care homes have also dropped, with 58 recorded in English care homes in the most recent week.

Since records began on April 10, 2020, there have been 950 Covid deaths in care homes in the Hampshire County Council area. There have been 99 in Portsmouth and 104 in Southampton in that time.

In England there have now been 28,963.
