Full list of businesses which will be allowed to open in Portsmouth during coronavirus lockdown

The government has announced that all ‘non-essential’ retail stores and restaurants will have to close during the next lockdown in England.

New restrictions will come into force on Thursday, November 5, and are expected to last for a month until Wednesday, December 2.

Non-essential retail can remain open for online delivery and click-and-collect. The News is compiling an online list of all the local independent businesses who will be operating online during lockdown – if you want your business to be included email [email protected].

Many businesses will have to close from tomorrow, including cinemas, casinos, swimming pools and soft play facilities.

Others that were told to close during the first lockdown earlier this year will be allowed to open this time, including hardware stores and garden centres.

Here is the full list from the government of businesses that will be permitted to open. We will update this list if there are any changes.

- Food retailers, including food markets, supermarkets, convenience stores and corner shops

- Off licenses and licensed shops selling alcohol (including breweries)

- Pharmacies (including non-dispensing pharmacies) and chemists

- Newsagents

- Hardware stores (including B&Q, Wickes, Homebase etc)

- Building merchants and building services

- Petrol stations

- Car repair and MOT services

- Bicycle shops

- Taxi or vehicle hire businesses

- The following businesses: banks, building societies, credit unions, short term loan providers, savings clubs, cash points, undertakings which by way of business operate currency exchange offices, transmit money (or any representation of money) by any means or cash cheques which are made payable to customers.

- Post offices

- Funeral directors

- Launderettes and dry cleaners

- Dental services, opticians, audiology services, chiropody, chiropractors, osteopaths and other medical or health services, including services relating to mental health.

- Veterinary surgeons and pet shops

- Agricultural supplies shop

- Storage and distribution facilities, including delivery drop off or collection points, where the facilities are in the premises of a business included in this list.

- Car parks

- Public toilets

- Garden centres
