How to report people in Portsmouth for breaking Covid-19 rules

Restrictions on the hospitality sector and social gatherings are in place in the UK in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus and to save lives.

It means that people cannot meet in groups of more than six, and pubs and restaurants have to close by 10pm.

Portsmouth is in the first tier of the government’s new lockdown system which means the area continues to follows national restrictions. Some areas of the UK have been placed in a higher tier where more measures have been bought in to help prevent the virus spreading.

The police have the power to enforce the rules and can fine offenders.

In Portsmouth, people who violate social gathering rules can behind £200, which will then double for each subsequent offence up to £6,400.

To report offenders, an online incident form can be completed on Hampshire Constabulary’s website.

Police have reminded people in an emergency – if someone’s life is in danger or a serious offence is occurring – you should call 999.

As of Wednesday October 14, there were 1,023 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Portsmouth.

A total of 237 hospital patients who tested positive for Covid-19 have died at QA Hospital so far.
