No new coronavirus deaths in Hampshire care homes recorded

According to figures from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) there were no Covid deaths in care homes in the Hampshire County Council area between August 29 and September 4.

And there were none in Portsmouth or Southampton during that time.

Across the whole of England there were 17 care home deaths related to the virus that week. Since records began on April 10 there have been 14,211 in England - or 25 per cent of all care home deaths.

During August there was a total of two deaths across Hampshire. This is a reduction across the county compared to previous months as there were 190 in May, 35 in June and eight in July.

However, the county council area has still seen the most coronavirus-related deaths in care homes in England since April 10 with a total of 450. At one time (July 17-23) the area recorded as many as 89 Covid deaths in one week.

Since April 10 there have been 1,891 care home deaths in Hampshire - meaning Covid was linked to 23.7 per cent of deaths.

There have been 39 coronavirus deaths in Portsmouth care homes since April 10, with the most recent one recorded on August 13.

A total of 62 care home deaths linked to Covid have been recorded in Southampton. The last death was recorded on July 9.

Some of the weekly figures increase in later data releases when more deaths from the period are notified to CQC.
