Patient dies from Covid-19 at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth as total deaths increases to 231

THE second Covid-19 death in a fortnight has been recorded at Queen Alexandra Hospital - following nearly three months with none.

There have now been a total of 231 coronavirus related deaths at the hospital, after the death on September 15.

Prior to that there was one death on August 31 and before then there was one on June 2.

The hospital is currently caring for 14 patients with Covid-19.

Speaking at a health overview and scrutiny panel (Hosp) meeting today (Sep 17) Penny Emerit, the deputy chief executive officer of the Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, said: 'Currently we are caring for 14 patients with a positive diagnosis of Covid-19.

'We have also sadly reported two deaths in the last fortnight.'

It comes as 21 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight over the last 24 hours, with three in Portsmouth alone.

The first death linked to Covid-19 at QA Hospital was recorded on March 13.
