The effort came as the UK recorded a bumper weekend in its vaccination effort, with a whopping one in 60 adults nationwide given the jab over two days.

Gary Weaving, the founder and chief executive of Forgotten Veterans UK answered the call from the Portsmouth Hive to provide volunteers to assist in the city’s efforts.

‘In five years’ time I want to look back and say that I didn’t stay at home and do nothing – I want to be part of the solution,’ he added.

So far 9.2m people have been vaccinated nationwide.

Meanwhile, yesterday saw the first people in Portsmouth receiving their jabs at the city's new super vaccination hub.

Hundreds of people attended the facility, at the St James’ Hospital site, in Milton.

It’s hoped the centre will vaccinate 1,000 people a day.

Forgotten Veterans UK, based in Eastney, added it would continue volunteering in the city's vaccination effort.
