Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant placed into tier three coronavirus restrictions

PORTSMOUTH has been moved into tier three for coronavirus restrictions, the government has announced.

Following a rise in cases throughout the south east, and a decreasing infection rate in the north, the government has re-evaluated which tier each area is placed in.

Portsmouth had been in tier one before the national lockdown, before being placed into tier two.

There had been rumblings among senior politicians that Portsmouth would be moved up to tier three, with council leader Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson describing it as a 50-50 yesterday.

Gosport and Havant are now also in tier three, as of Saturday, but not Fareham.

This means that you cannot meet indoors with anyone outside your support bubble – although you can meet in groups of six in outdoor public places.

Hospitality venues like bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants must close except for takeaway collection.

From December 23 to 27, different rules on social distancing are still set to apply for the Christmas period.
