Slight increase in Covid-19 related deaths in Hampshire care homes
Following a week where the county saw no Covid-19 deaths in its care homes, data from the Care Quality Commission showed there were two in the Hampshire County Council area between July 25 and 31.
There were none in Portsmouth and Southampton that week.
That week there were a total of 53 care home deaths overall in the Hampshire County Council area, meaning 3.7 per cent were linked to Covid.

Hide AdIn England there were 44 coronavirus related care home deaths between July 25 and 31 out of a total of 1,598 care home deaths, making Covid-19 the cause of 2.7 per cent of deaths.
In the previous week, July 18 to 24, care homes in the Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton council areas recorded no Covid-19 deaths.
This was the first time all three areas had reported no deaths in care homes linked to the virus since April 10 when records started.
But the Hampshire council area remains the highest in the country for the total of coronavirus related deaths in care homes with 449. At one time , between July 17-23, there were as many as 89 Covid-19 deaths in one week.

Hide AdIn Portsmouth there have been 38 coronavirus deaths in care homes since April 10. There have been none recorded since May 11.
A total of 62 care home deaths linked to Covid have been recorded in Southampton.
Some of the weekly figures increase in later data releases when more deaths from the period are notified to CQC.
In England there have been a total of 14,090 care home deaths linked to coronavirus since April 10.
