Victoria Beadle, from Emsworth, has been put forward for the Patient’s Choice Award for helping Anna Kirkham’s daughter arrive safely into the world at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

Anna, who gave birth in March, was so impressed with her care during labour that she nominated Victoria for this year’s Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust’s Pride of Portsmouth Awards.

‘If it wasn’t for Victoria I wouldn't have been able to stay so calm and the outcome would have undoubtedly been worse. I never got a proper chance to thank her as it has taken me these last six months to process what we went through but I will be forever grateful to Victoria.’

Victoria has been a midwife for 15 years and was blown away by the nomination.

The 41-year-old said: ‘This feels amazing, it’s so lovely to hear. I know it’s part of my job but it’s the biggest compliment that it’s come from the patient.

‘It validates every reason why you do it and it reminds you of the reasons why you started it and why you continue to do it.’

When asked what she loves about midwifery, Victoria said: ‘The chance to make a difference to women’s birth experience and make it more positive for them.

‘It’s got its challenges like all jobs have but being able to make a difference to people in those situations keeps you going. To know I’ve done a good job by them is the absolute best thing.’

Mum-of-two Victoria praised her colleagues, having experienced their care when she gave birth to her own children.
