Harry Wallen ‘wanted to do his bit’ for staff at Queen Alexandra Hospital who are putting their lives on the line to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The Fareham College student, 19, was inspired to raise funds after witnessing the incredible efforts of medical staff when his granddad was ill even before the pandemic struck the nation.

He said: ‘The staff are amazing for what they are doing and I just wanted to do my bit and give back.

‘Over the years my granddad has been in hospital - and in intensive care - so I’ve seen how much work the critical teams have to do and that was before coronavirus.’

Harry, who lives in Locks Heath, will dye his brown blue on Sunday before shaving it all off the following Thursday on Facebook Live.

‘I’m really looking forward to it - I’ve never dyed my hair before. I’m not worried about shaving my hair as it’s for an amazing cause. It’s quite long at the moment because I haven’t been able to cut it.

‘All the money will go to the hospital and hopefully to the Covid-19 wards. I will be walking around with blue hair for four days so hopefully people will know I’m doing it for the NHS and it will help raise more money.’
