Plans were revealed in November for Hanway Medical Group to merge with the Portsdown Group Practice on May 1 after two GPs announced their retirement.

Hanway runs surgeries in Hanway Road, Buckland, and Stubbington Avenue, North End, but both sites may be closed.

Kingston Crescent Surgery, run by Portsdown, is halfway between the two Hanway sites and Kingston patients will be able to ask questions or raise any concerns they have about the plans which could see Hanway’s 14,000 patients using the North End surgery.

Hanway patients can choose to be seen at other surgeries, including Paulsgrove and Cosham.

Mark Stubbings, managing partner at Portsdown Group Practice, said: ‘We are not planning any kind of formal presentation, but will be very happy to answer any questions.

‘After the event, we will update the FAQ factsheet available for patients from both practices.

‘This event is for Portsdown Group Practice registered patients only, and our staff will be on the door to check people in and welcome them into the waiting area.’

Plans to extend Kingston Crescent surgery after Portsdown Group merger are scrap...

Last month patients were told about a proposal to expand Kingston Crescent Surgery with 10 new clinical rooms but hours later the practice announced that, due to the cost, the surgery will not be extended.

Mr Stubbings told The News at the time: ‘Money which would be required to complete an extension to the building could be better spent directly on improving patient care.

‘if the proposed merger is approved, we have now developed plans to reconfigure the building to create more clinical rooms at a much lower cost.’

The drop-in session for patients at Kingston Crescent Surgery will be in the surgery’s waiting room on Wednesday, February 26 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

The proposed merger – and any application to close buildings - will need to be approved by NHS Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group, which is expecting to receive papers in March.

Hanway held two patient meetings this year, attended by a total of about 80 patients.
