NHS 72: Residents encouraged to clap for NHS on Sunday as Portsmouth staff say thank you to community

Sunday (July 5) marks the health organisation’s 72nd birthday and there has been wide calls for every community to gather their pots and pans and make noise for all NHS staff who have been involved in the Covid-19 battle.

On Saturday evening at 8pm, the community is also invited to put a light in their window or doorstep to pay tribute to those who have died.

The staff at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust also took the opportunity of the NHS’ birthday to thank their colleagues and the community for their response in the last few months.

Queen Alexandra Hospital respiratory ward sister Hazera Noory said: ‘I would like to thank the public for their kind donations during this pandemic and all of your donations have been invaluable to the staff, to the patients and everyone that has been in hospital.

‘To the staff, to our students and to volunteers, our heartfelt thank you for helping us all out in this pandemic.

Matron Natalie Raven said: ‘A massive happy birthday to our NHS but also a massive thank you to our community pre and post covid, we couldn’t have got through this without you.

‘All your support and kind donations have just been absolutely phenomenal.’
