From frontline NHS staff to care workers and those providing vital support roles in the battle to defeat Covid-19, leaders of all different political persuasions were united in their message of thanks to the ‘inspirational’ people mobilised to combat the spread of the virus.

‘They are looking after those who are very ill and are doing so tremendously. We should all be very grateful to them including those working in care homes and nursing homes while working on minimum wage.’

The endorsement was backed by Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan, who said: ‘As we deal with the crisis at hand it is clear how much we rely on our brave healthcare workers, both NHS and social care staff. Day after day they are putting themselves at risk and working tirelessly for our community. Their commitment to serving others is truly inspirational.

‘When Britain begins the road to recovery, a lasting legacy of this current crisis must be the continued respect and recognition of those working on the frontline serving with care and compassion. Our country owes them all a great debt.’

Penny Mordaunt, Portsmouth North MP, said: ‘I want to thank everyone who is working so hard to provide incredible care to Covid-19 sufferers and to keep emergency and other healthcare services going.

‘From Intensive Care Units to the cleaning teams, the efforts they have made to stand up new capability and to deliver life-saving care is heroic.

‘I also want to thank all those working in social care too. Without them healthcare would not be able to cope and they are providing comfort and vital services to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.’

Alan Mak, MP for Havant, said: ‘Everyone working in our NHS to overcome COVID-19 is a hero, and we thank every single one of our NHS workers for their hard work, compassion and dedication. Let’s get behind them and beat Coronavirus.’

Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage said: ‘Massive thanks to everyone in health and care - keeping us safe and saving lives. Frontline NHS staff are supported by an army of allied health professionals, pharmacists, porters and domestic staff.

‘Adult social care workers and unpaid carers are unsung heroes in our local communities. A special mention to the thousands of former nurses and doctors who have rejoined the NHS in the battle against Covid-19. Every single one of them is a superstar in my eyes.’

Suella Braverman, MP for Fareham, added: ‘The men and women working on the frontline in our health services, social care and key services are the heroes in this crisis.

‘Their sacrifice, dedication, expertise and care is an example to us all and underlines why it is essential that we must all stay at home to protect the NHS so that we can save lives.’
