Rowans Hospice receives donation to help brighten lives as part of UK initiative

Board game company Zatu has donated a variety of games to Rowans Hospice as part of a UK-wide initiative.

It is hoped the games will make a difficult time a bit easier on children and their loved ones by providing some light-hearted fun.

The Waterlooville hospice, which offers specialist palliative care to adults with life-limiting illnesses, was chosen as one of the hospices to receive the games bundle.

Each donation includes games for children of all ages such as Brainbox, Top Trumps, Connect 4 and Operation.

The move follows Zatu donating thousands of pounds to Starlight – a children’s foundation which brightens the lives of seriously ill children by granting wishes-of-a-lifetime.

Zatu’s managing director, Simon Budd, decided to get involved after spending long periods in hospital as a child.

‘We have already donated over 25 board games bundles. Our aim is to donate to every children’s hospice and hospital in the UK and we are working hard to make this happen,’ he said.

Dr Kate Bramwell, clinical psychologist at Rowans, said: ‘The children and families will really benefit from these games.

‘It can be hard to find things for children to do when visiting loved ones in a hospice and these games will give families the chance to spend quality time together and make some lovely memories.

‘They will also come in really useful when we run our children’s parties and therapeutic groups at the hospice too.’

A community focused company, Zatu have previously donated games to several libraries as part of an initiative to tackle loneliness and mental health issues and regularly support the NSPCC.
