A Facebook post from the Park Tavern read: ‘We hope everyone is keeping safe and well. Even though it was very low key we did open on Saturday and thank everyone who came into support us and of course adhering to the strict guidelines that have been put in place, which made it a bit different, but a safer environment for us all.

‘With the support from my brewery I have made a decision to close, I know we have only just reopened, but with recent events I feel it's the safest option.

‘We will reopen once I feel it's comfortable to do so. We will keep you posted.’

‘It is a shame to be closing so soon after the reopening, but we think this needs to be done.’

It comes after health secretary Matt Hancock said that the voluntary closure of The Village Home, and the Lighthouse in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, and the Fox and Hounds in Batley, West Yorkshire which have also closed due to suspected coronavirus cases, was evidence that the test and trace system was working.

On Monday, The Village Home in Gosport said it had ‘had a case of coronavirus in the pub’, adding that ‘some of us are in isolation’.

Its statement on Facebook said: ‘The pub is now shut but all being well will open again on Saturday. Anyone who was in the pub over the weekend there is no need to isolate unless you show symptoms or are contacted direct by the trace group. Thank you and hope to see you soon.’
