Surrounded by the sea of one side and the countryside on the other it is not hard to see why Portsmouth attracts so many visitors each year and why we love our quirky South Coast (largely) island city
We’ve narrowed down the list of things which evoke Pompey our pride to 26 – one for each letter of the alphabet:
5. E is for Eastney Beam Engine House
This museum is in a Grade II-listed house that dates back to 1880s. It was a Victorian engine house and still contains a pair of classic Boulton Watt beam engines and pumps. Photo: Malcolm Wells
6. F is for Fratton Park
One of the most iconic stadiums in the country, Fratton Park has been home to Pompey since the turn of the 20th century through thick and thin. Photo: Habibur Rahman
7. G is for the Guildhall
Right in the heart of the city, this impressive building dates back to the 1890s and was designed in a neo-classical style. It is a multi-use venue used for everything from music concerts to council meetings, events and graduations! Photo: Emma Terracciano
8. H is for Historic Dockyard
Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard celebrates our city's wonderful naval heritage and is home to HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, the Mary Rose Museum, Action Stations and harbour tours. Photo: Ian Hargreaves
