We decided to dive into The News archives to find photos of just some of the pubs that have served their last pints – and find out what happened to them after shutting down.
From being demolished to become homes and even more.

9. Sir Robert Peel
Built in 1967 as part of the Somers Town estate. In the 1990s Sir Robert Peel became a free house but closed in early 2004 as the long serving landlords retired. The pub was later demolished and a residential block of flats was built. Photo: Michael Scaddan

10. The Swan
The Swan was situated at 100 Copnor Road, but closed by the start of 2011. A planning application was submitted later in the year to demolish the pubs and turn it into flats, which became a reality a couple of years later. Photo: The News

11. The Taswell Arms
The Taswell Arms was located in Taswell Road for over a 100 years, it was originally built as a hotel. It served its last pints in February 2012 and has been turned into a private residence. Photo: Contributed

12. The Wheelbarrow
The Wheelbarrow in Kent Road, Southsea was one of the oldest in Portsmouth before it became a coffee shop in 2011. In 2013 it was turned into an Icelandic themed café bar but went back to being a coffee house in 2014. Photo: -
