Portsmouth pubs remembered in pictures | Nostalgia

It's an old story from the days of wooden ships and concerned a sailor, who after a long time at sea was returning to his family with the much-needed money he had saved.

But, after leaving his ship, he visited a pub in Portsmouth, got drunk and was robbed.

When he sobered up he was too ashamed to go home so he booked in to the Kingston Tavern for the night – where he was found the next morning hanging from a large hook in the ceiling.
