MINI Electric buyers offered 5,000 free miles of charge

Mini has announced a new energy deal for buyers of the Mini Electric which will give them up to 5,000 miles’ worth of free charging.

As the brand’s first fully electric model opens for order, Mini has revealed details of an agreement with supplier OVO Energy aimed at getting drivers to switch to fully renewable electricity.

Mini Electric buyers who switch to OVO’s EV Everywhere bundle and charge their car at home will receive a discount of £11 on their bill each month for the first year of their tariff.

That is the equivalent of 5,000 free miles for drivers charging their car off-peak on Economy 7, or 3,300 free miles for those on the single-rate version of the tariff. The electricity bundle uses 100 per cent renewable electricity.

The Mini Electric looks just like a regular three-door Mini hatchback but uses an all-electric drivetrain featuring a 32.5kWh battery and 181bhp motor. It can cover up to 145 miles on a charge and charges to full in just over three hours on a wallbox.

As well as the home energy discount, Mini Electric buyers will get two years’ free membership of the Polar Plus public charging network, giving unlimited access to more than 7,000 charge points around the country.

David George, director of Mini UK said: “Our Mini Electric customers have already taken a big step in lowering their carbon emissions, so we’re pleased now to recommend this exclusive offer with OVO Energy, for those drivers who want to reduce their footprint even further.”

Tom Pakenham, director of electric vehicles at OVO Energy added: “The partnership between OVO Energy and Mini UK brings even more electric vehicle drivers across the UK the opportunity to benefit from smart charging. Our EV Everywhere bundle helps customers have more control over their total energy usage, with a complete at-home and on-the-go energy solution, enabling zero-carbon driving.”

Mini is the latest brand to partner with an energy supplier to offer customers discounted energy. Volvo is offering to refund buyers of the XC40 Recharge plug-in hybrid for their first 12 months of charging the car and Mitsubishi has also teamed up with OVO Energy to offer the equivalent of 10,000 miles of free charging.
