The Chairmakers pubs in World's End hailed as one of the country's most dog friendly

A HAMPSHIRE pub in dire-straits during the Covid-19 pandemic has been hailed as one of the most pet friendly in the country - and the landlord says two-legged and four-legged business is now booming.

The Chairmakers, in Apless Laane, World’s End, teamed up with canine culinary chefs Paleo Ridge to put together a special pub menu for dogs last September.

Now national pet care brand Webbox has hailed the pub as one of top five most pet friendly watering-holes in the country.

It comes as the pub expands its dog food menu to include a greater selection of home cooked meats, according to landlord Angus Reid.

Angus, who has run the pub with his wife Sherry since 2019, said: ‘It's been unbelievably popular - we have people coming in just to feed their dogs.

‘And it's nice to have the hard work recognised.’

The recognition is part of a wider reversal of fortune since the pub has welcomed back punters for outdoor service earlier this month.

The News had previously reported on Angus facing £60,000 in bills incurred just to keep the pub closed during the last 12 months - but now business is booming.

Former Royal Navy sailor Angus said: ‘Last week was the busiest week we've ever had, and that includes when we were fully open.

‘We turned hundreds of people away because they hadn't booked and we could fit them in.

‘It's been incredible.’
