Gardening: British flowers - they bring me sunshine | Southsea Green

The Met Office recently announced that May was the sunniest calendar month on record, with 266 hours of sunshine beating the long-held record of June 1957 at 265 hours!

All this extra sunshine has not only powered all of us through these strange times but provided our green spaces with energy for an abundance of growth.

This coming week is British Flowers Week and the theme this year is healing. As a florist I know flowers bring such comfort and joy to many and often have the power to say so much when we can’t find the words.

I personally endeavour to use British, seasonal and local blooms as much as possible throughout the year, but right now the beauty is all around us!

So let’s celebrate British flowers, in our gardens and green spaces or by bringing some of that sunshine indoors with British cut flowers.

Flowers bring joy, that’s definitely something to share around.
