9.40pm Update: Portsmouth Harbour re-opened after Second World War bomb discovery

PORTSMOUTH Harbour is now open after a Second World War bomb was found earlier this evening.

Brittany Ferries arriving and departing in the city were delayed for around two hours - the service is now running normally.

Reports say the Royal Navy bomb disposal team has now been stood down after the bomb was found ‘not viable’.

There had been a 500m exclusion zone around the harbour.

The Wightlink Ferry service between Portsmouth and Isle of Wight was not affected and South West Trains also had a normal service.

A spokeswoman from the Royal Navy said they were investigating the situation.
