Americas-bound
Can you imagine The News naval correspondent announcing that one of the new Type 45 destroyers was to sail across the Atlantic to relieve a ship on the America and West Indies Station?
No, not really these days, but at one time it was an everyday report for the old Portsmouth Evening News. In this picture we see the 8,000-ton cruiser Superb berthing alongside the cruiser Glasgow. Shortly afterwards, Superb left these shores for the Americas and the West Indies and away from British shores in mid-winter.
