Marwell Zoo confirms death of treasured Himalayan monal Bruce after ongoing treatment

An animal at Marwell has died

Marwell Zoo has confirmed the death of one of their treasured animals after receiving ongoing treatment.

Bruce, the Himalayan monal, died last month after being euthanised due to a continued medical condition. The bird, which arrived at the Hampshire conservation zoo in 2019, is native to Himalayan forests and shrublands, and the team have said he will be “deeply missed”.

A Marwell Zoo spokesperson said: "Bruce had been receiving treatment for a leg injury, but despite several months of care from our dedicated veterinary team, his condition failed to improve significantly.

“With his welfare as the priority, the difficult decision was made to euthanise him to prevent any further suffering.”
