Bransbury Park construction site unrecognisable as progress makes major strides
Construction is moving ahead at a leisure centre
Major strides are being made at the construction site of a multi-million pound leisure centre.
Bransbury Park looks unrecognisable with a huge steel framework and the main pool taking centre stage at the £22 million centre which will offer two swimming pools, a gym, fitness studios and a GP once complete.

In a recent Portsmouth City Council bulletin, it said steel fixers have been at the Eastney site to construct the bulk of the building’s framework. The structure, which is not at its full height yet, will continue to progress in coming weeks with engineers due to return at further stages in the project.
The concrete base has been poured in the main pool, and is now ready for work on the walls, with the deep end completed. An update said “the team are now working their way around the rest of the pool, bringing us one step closer to seeing the finished shape emerge.”
Brown shuttering has been installed alongside the steel reinforcement, providing temporary support around the walls. The structures essentially form a mould for the concrete, keeping it contained and ensuring it remains in the correct position as it cures.
Attention will now be on the learner pool, where contractors will complete the steel reinforcement beneath the concrete base. Once the steelwork is finished, the concrete can be poured, marking the next major stage in the pool’s construction and giving a clearer indication of its eventual shape.
As previously reported by The News, the cost of the new swimming pool has jumped by £696,000 due to the removal of waste soil from the site, forcing the city council to dip into reserve funds.
