Buriton fundraisers join jorces to revamp '˜dire' playground

RESIDENTS of a small village have formed an organisation to revive their '˜absolutely dire' playground.

Fundraisers in Buriton, south of Petersfield, have started holding car boot sales to accumulate the money.

Founded with the help of the parish council, The Buriton Playground Fundraising Committee raised about £400 at its first event in May.

Committee member Fran Vesey said: ‘The play equipment is actually quite bleak.

‘While it’s a small village, there are quite a few children here and there are now no bus services to some of the larger towns on a Saturday.’

The car boot sales have attracted interest from across Hampshire, and the committee’s efforts were boosted by a large donation from an anonymous benefactor.

Fran, 54, the landlady of the Five Bells pub, said: ‘We reckon we have enough to buy a new swing because we don’t even have a swing right now, which is rather pathetic.’

The next car boot sale will be held at Buriton recreation ground on August 28 from 8am.
