Charity is ready for dragon race challenge

A CHARITY that will be a beneficiary of Portsmouth's Dragon Boat Festival is also entering a team.

FitzRoy supports adults with learning and physical disabilities, offering residential care to as many people as they can.

The Dragon Boat Festival is on the lake at Lakeside North Harbour on Sunday, May 15.

Fitzroy, along with Enable Ability, which works with disabled people, will receive proceeds from the festival – and will also enter a team.

Fitzroy’s community and fundraising co-ordinator Jim Apted said: ‘There’s a need for homes for people with these disabilities. The Dragon Boat Festival is important to us because we’re partnering with another charity for our Love For Life campaign.’

The Love For Life campaign aims to transform lives for people with disabilities by finding a community of friends to surround themselves with.

Mr Apted said: ‘We’ve raised about £1,000 for the boat we’ve submitted, but we would like to get to the £3,000 to £4,000 mark.’
