Portsmouth's Express FM shortlisted for Station of the Year at UK Community Radio Awards
Community radio station sets its sights on huge accolade
The team at a community radio station are vying for a major award after being shortlisted earlier this year.
Portsmouth-based community station Express FM has been shortlisted for Station of the Year at the 2026 UK Community Radio Awards, highlighting its ongoing contribution to the city and its residents.
The recognition comes during a significant year for the station, which is also marking 20 years on air in conjunction to Portsmouth’s centenary.
Express FM content manager, Harrison RB said: “It’s a really proud moment for everyone involved with Express FM, either as part of the team, as a sponsor or as a listener. This nomination is deserved recognition for the people in our community who give us a purpose and make the station what it is because it belongs to all of us.
“It’s particularly special in the year we’re celebrating Portsmouth100. We’ve been incredibly proud to tell the stories of the city and play our part in those celebrations.

“Whatever happens at the awards, this is another reminder of just how much Portsmouth has to offer. Thank you to everybody who supports local radio made by Pompey people, for Pompey people.”
This latest nomination marks the third consecutive year Express FM has received national recognition as the station was shortlisted for the same award in 2024 before earning a nomination at the Local Radio Station of the Year at the Audio & Radio Industry Awards in 2025.
Operating as a non-profit organisation, Express FM gives people across Portsmouth a platform to share their stories, showcase local talent, promote events and highlight businesses. At the heart of its work is a commitment to representing the voices, interests and experiences of the communities it serves.
For Express FM, the latest shortlist position reflects the dedication of its volunteers and the support of its listeners, sponsors and supporters, alongside the wider Portsmouth community. Their contributions help bring the station’s programming to life, whether through broadcasts, community events or work behind the scenes.
Express FM will find out if they have won the title on October 24 at a ceremony in Birmingham.
