7 re-arrested over shotgun murder of dad Gurinderjit Rai in Corhampton

Detectives have re-arrested seven people suspected of conspiring to murder a man found dead.

Dad-of-two Gurinderjit Rai, 41, was found dead in Shepherds Farm Lane, Corhampton, having suffered shotgun blast wounds on July 13 last year.

Today Hampshire police revealed seven people previously arrested have been brought back into custody.

All of the people in custody today were held on suspicion of conspiring to murder Mr Rai. He was found near Corhampton Golf Club.

They were a 30-year-old man from Winchester, a 42-year-old man from Owslebury, a 32-year-old man from Climping, West Sussex, a 40-year-old man from Southampton, two men, 26 and 32, from Winchester, and a 29-year-old man from Eastleigh.

Mr Rai’s family previously said: ‘Gurinderjit was a devoted father to his two young children and a loving fiancé to his partner. He adored his parents.

‘He had an infectious sense of humour and would always find the best of any situation.

‘He was a principled man and would always be the first to offer help to those that needed it. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.’

A police spokesman today said: ‘Gurinderjit’s body was found in a car that was parked in Shepherds Farm Lane, Corhampton, on Saturday 13 July.

‘A post-mortem confirmed the 41-year-old died as a result of gunshot wounds.

‘A total of 18 people were arrested as part of the subsequent investigation.’

The spokesman confirmed 10 other people arrested remain under investigation.

Nine were held on suspicion of conspiring to murder Mr Rai.

They were: five men, 40, 21, 43, 67 and 38 from Winchester, a 32-year-old man from Chandler’s Ford, a 52-year-old man from Nantyglo, South Wales, a 31-year-old man from Eastleigh, and a 21-year-old man from Whitchurch.

A 33-year-old woman from Winchester, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Another man, 21, and from Romsey, was arrested in January this year but was released with no further action.

A man was previously jailed for refusing to hand over his Apple iPhone passcode.
