Ban for Portsmouth drink-driver who crashed, could 'hardly stand up' and put people 'at risk of death'

Javed Hussein, 37, of Wadham Road, Hilsea, put people ‘at risk of death or serious injury' in a crash on July 12 in Portsmouth.

At Portsmouth Magistrates' Court he admitted careless driving in Goldsmith Avenue, failing to co-operate with a roadside breath test and failing to stop.

District judge Gary Lucie convicted him of drink-driving at a trial.

A breath test revealed he 63 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35.

Hussein admitted failing to provide a specimen of breath at a police station on June 10 last year.

Judge Lucie imposed an 18-week jail term suspended for a year with a three-year ban.

He must pay a £115 surcharge and £620 costs, and complete a drink-impaired drivers’ course and 15 days’ rehabilitation activities.

Hussein has stopped drinking and his father is unwell.
