Cab driver left with torn clothes after street attack

A TAXI driver was left with torn clothes and scratches after being assaulted outside a supermarket.

Police are seeking witnesses to an incident in High Street, Bognor Regis, in which a driver waiting on the rank outside the Iceland store was assaulted by another man.

The 55-year-old driver of a Yellow Star cab was attacked while sitting in his car.

He got out and a scuffle ensued, which was broken up by bystanders.

The assailant, a man in his early 40s, then ran off. The victim was left with a torn T-shirt, scratches and bruising.

The assault happened at 2.15pm on June 28, although details have only just been released by police.

n A 43-year-old man from Bognor Regis has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and bailed until August 2.
