Coronavirus: Two Portsmouth women charged with breaching Covid-19 restrictions and shoplifting

Amy Mihell, 28 and Poppy Cadman, 26, both of Sandringham Road, in Fratton, were charged with contravening a requirement as to the restriction of movement during the emergency period – coronavirus.

It comes as police investigated a theft from Co-op in Albert Road, Southsea, just after 10.30am yesterday.

Meat and washing detergent was stolen from the shop, police said today.

Mihell and Cadman were also charged with theft from the shop.

Both women were due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today.

Hampshire police said Mihell was charged with using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘We want residents and businesses to know that our work to tackle crime continues during these challenging times and we will take action to protect our communities and make them safer.’

Government brought in the Health Protection Regulations 2020 to give police powers to enforce the lockdown.

The lockdown has been brought in to slow the spread of coronavirus.
