Drug driver banned after 130mph police pursuit

A drug driver who led police on a 13-mile pursuit at speeds up to 130mph has been banned from driving for four years.

Shocking dash cam footage shows Tia Paget dangerously speeding away from police, all while she was high on a cocktail of cocaine and cannabis behind the wheel of an uninsured vehicle.

The 34-year-old, of Ashley Court in Gosport, has now been sentenced.

Just after 3pm on 13 April, police attempted to stop a black Vauxhall Insignia on the A34 northbound near Whitchurch.

The driver failed to stop for the officer and this led to a pursuit. A court heard Paget tried to avoid police by driving at 130mph, undertaking at speed, dangerously cutting up a lorry on a roundabout and weaving between rows of traffic.

Hampshire Police officers eventually apprehended the driver on the A339 in Newbury when Paget got stuck behind a queue of static traffic. She then failed a roadside drug wipe for cannabis and cocaine, and small quantities of these drugs were also found inside her car.

Paget appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on August 20 and was sentenced for charges of drug driving, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, possession of cocaine, and possession of cannabis.

She was banned from driving for four years, and handed a sentence of 10 months imprisonment which was suspended for two years.

Paget was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 12 rehabilitation requirement days.
