Fareham: Two men arrested and stun gun, suspected Class A drugs and goat seized after police raid in Newgate Lane

Armed police carried out a search at a compound off Newgate Lane near Stubbington on Friday.

Two men, 24 and 28, both from Fareham, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a prohibited weapon.

Both have been released under investigation while police enquiries continue.

Officers seized a stun gun, the suspected prohibited weapon, and a quantity of suspected class A drugs.

The RSPCA also seized one goat for further assessment.

Detective Inspector Abbie Leeson said: ‘We have now concluded our searches and I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support over these two days.’

Police cordoned off the entrance to Southern Water’s Peel Common water treatment works during the raid.

A resident of the compound, who asked not to be named, previously said police had ‘come barging in’ at 4am.

He said: ‘We were trying to sleep and they broke down the door.’

The compound, featuring at least three wooden building and a a number of static mobile homes, is understood to have been bought and occupied two years ago.

A 58-year-old Newgate Lane resident previously told The News: ‘We went upstairs to watch.

‘They arrived without any sirens.

‘But it must be serious if they have sent this many police.’
