Fire crews called to high rise in Portsmouth after reports of smoke

FOUR fire crews were called to reports of smoke coming from a window in a high rise commercial building.

Firefighters from Portchester, Southsea, Cosham and Havant went to the building in Guildhall Square in Portsmouth this morning after smoke was seen coming from a window.

Crews found it to be steam from a heating system.

A spokeswoman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Firefighters from Portchester, Southsea, Cosham and Havant were mobilised at 3.27am this morning to a commercial building on Guildhall Square, Portsmouth.

‘Smoke was reported coming out of a window.

‘This was a false alarm caused by steam from a heating system.

‘The stop message came in at 4am.’

A tweet from Portchester Fire Station tweeted: ‘03:28 both vehicles mobilised with @Southsea24 @Cosham23 @HavantFire16 @HFRSCommandUnit to reported fire in a high rise building in Portsmouth, alarm was caused by steam.’
