Jamie Newman admitted having the CO2-powered air revolver in Hursley Road, Leigh Park, on December 27 last year.
Portsmouth magistrates branded it a ‘foolish act’ and told him to pay a £75 victim surcharge and £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The air weapon was forfeited and destroyed.
Newman, 39, of Overton Crescent, Leigh Park, admitted the charge at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.
A report from probation was positive about Newman, the court was told.
