Gang arrested in dawn raid after ATM thefts in Waterlooville and Fareham

FOUR men and a woman are in custody after being arrested on Tuesday following a series of ATM thefts where explosive gas was used to try and break into the machines across Hampshire and Surrey.

The arrests occurred as part of a series of dawn raids involving 150 officers at addresses across Hampshire.

Those arrested included 24-year-old and 25-year-old men from Farnborough, as well as 33-year-old woman from the town.

Two men from Southampton, aged 22 and 29, were also arrested.

They were all arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and conspiracy to cause explosions on dates between August 14, 2019 and January 19, 2020.

The 12 incidents included an ambush on Tesco in Lavender Road, Waterlooville on August 14, a raid on HSBC, Park Gate, Fareham on August 27, as well as on a Co-op store in Stubbington, Fareham, on September 9.

The other raids took place at Stop ‘n’ Shop, Sholing, Southampton on August 14; Cashzone, Headley, East Hants on August 22; Santander, Petersfield, East Hants, on August 25.

ATMs were also targeted at Premier Convenience Store, Brockenhurst, on September 3; Post Office, West End, Eastleigh, on September 3; Tesco Express, Bishopstoke, Eastleigh , on September 11 and Co-op, Spring Road, Sholing, Southampton on January 19 this year.
